Give An Hour:
Veterans Mental Health Support Initiative
Watch TV Announcement Video:
What is Give An Hour?
The Need
Studies estimate at least 300,000 of our service men and women are suffering major depression or post-traumatic stress. An additional 320,000 are suffering from a traumatic brain injury. There is an average of 18 suicides a day among America’s 25 million veterans.
The wounds of war are not always easy to see.
Join the Kentucky Initiative: If you are a licensed mental health professional, would you consider becoming part of an effort to provide free mental health services for our troops and their loved ones? Our goal is to sign-up 400 of Kentucky’s licensed mental health providers (we currently have 30 providers). As a volunteer you are asked to give one hour of your practice time each week for a minimum of one year. To sign up, click the icon and you will be taken to the Give An Hour website where you can register and then you will receive a confirmation email. Click here to become a provider.

The lifeline specifically addresses the problem of veterans "coming home" and "falling through the cracks." An initial call to the National Veterans and Families Lifeline is met with a live, immediate response--no automated messages. The call center team listens, immediately assesses the emotional state of the caller, identifies additional service needs, and where appropriate, conferences in third parties that can help. We serve each lifeline caller; and depending on the situation, we will spend anywhere from a few minutes, to several hours, days, or up to several weeks and months of ongoing case management.
